I hate…

…chain letters. I’ve noticed that hordes of those stupid spamming chain letters are appearing everywhere on sites like YouTube. It’s driving me nuts. I think nobody would complain if they were deleted on sight.

I wonder; is there really enough dumb people out there for these things to keep existing or are they just being annoying pricks? Probably both, I’m guessing.

Domain name shenanigans!

After posting the “How much is your domain worth?” topic on The Hideout I began to contemplate about buying rpgcyco.com again. Eventually I convinced myself to buy it, but I also decided that it could wait a day or two.

The next day, however, I discovered that the domain name had been taken! I immediately did a WHOIS check, got the name of the registrar and did a quick search which eventually led me to this topic on the DNSstuff.com forums.

From there, I was lead to domibot.info, a website describing the activities of a certain company or companies whose order of business is buying domain names which can potentially be sold to people who want them, for many times what they would normally pay. Basically, as that website explains, if a domain name does not generate a response from a customer or does not provide enough advertising revenue to pay for itself, they will drop it within 5 days, or pass it off to a sister company where they hold it for another 5 days, so they do not have to pay.

I’m guessing rpgcyco.com was added to the list because I ran it through the domain name worth calculator which was getting a lot of publicity thanks to Digg, or they were just tracking searches in general. Either way, they did drop rpgcyco.com and I have now bought it along with rpgcyco.org. Both domains redirect here. :)

Now is a good time to say that I register my domain names with Namecheap.com. They have been absolutely faultless since I began using them in June 2003, and I have no problem with giving them free publicity. :)

TAFE has begun!

I’m now in my fourth week of TAFE!

So far, it has been really good, many times better than high school. It’s great when your subjects are all in your main interest area. There is no English or Physics either, which is nice. :-P

It’s not all fun though, we still have to do boring stuff such as Occupational Health and Safety. However, we are learning about Linux a great deal in another class, which is really good. I do have a bit of an advantage in that class considering I’ve had a few years experience with Linux and BASIC programming, but I am still learning a lot about BASH scripting.

I have received two assignments already, one for OH&S and another for Project Management, but I’m pretty sure I can get them done and achieve decent results.

On an unrelated note, I have recently re-enabled guest commenting and thanks to Akismet little to no spam can get through. If spam does get through by some chance, I can mark it as spam and it will be reported to further improve the system. :)

LAN Raider

I’ve been working on a table containing information about all the previous LAN parties I’ve been too. It’s called LAN Raider. :-P

The document is not yet completed, as there are so many what I call “bleh” LANs which don’t stick in memory.

Update – 27/01/2007: Added 3 more LANs. Still need to add the missing Scout Hall LANs.
