After posting the “How much is your domain worth?” topic on The Hideout I began to contemplate about buying rpgcyco.com again. Eventually I convinced myself to buy it, but I also decided that it could wait a day or two.
The next day, however, I discovered that the domain name had been taken! I immediately did a WHOIS check, got the name of the registrar and did a quick search which eventually led me to this topic on the DNSstuff.com forums.
From there, I was lead to domibot.info, a website describing the activities of a certain company or companies whose order of business is buying domain names which can potentially be sold to people who want them, for many times what they would normally pay. Basically, as that website explains, if a domain name does not generate a response from a customer or does not provide enough advertising revenue to pay for itself, they will drop it within 5 days, or pass it off to a sister company where they hold it for another 5 days, so they do not have to pay.
I’m guessing rpgcyco.com was added to the list because I ran it through the domain name worth calculator which was getting a lot of publicity thanks to Digg, or they were just tracking searches in general. Either way, they did drop rpgcyco.com and I have now bought it along with rpgcyco.org. Both domains redirect here.
Now is a good time to say that I register my domain names with Namecheap.com. They have been absolutely faultless since I began using them in June 2003, and I have no problem with giving them free publicity.
